Physical Description:  Extremely durable, reliable, and low cost track line that has stood the test of time, great for children and beginners.  Does not have very good detail and is not very realistic looking.

 

Available Pieces:  Standard sectional radiuses, assorted straight lengths 9 inches and under, #4 and #6 turnouts, assorted crossing angles, and 36 inch flex track sections.

Physical Description:  Durable, reliable, and mid range in cost, also great for children and beginners through experienced experts.  Much improved detail over their code 100 line, much more realistic looking.

 

Available Pieces:  Standard sectional radiuses plus 24” radius, assorted straight lengths 9 inches and under, #4 and #6 and recently announced #8 turnouts, assorted crossing angles, and 36 inch flex track sections.

Physical Description:  Code 100, extremely durable, reliable, and mid range in cost, great for children and beginners.  Does not have very good detail and is not very realistic looking, but it is extremely easy to set up and will even work directly on carpet.  Available with brass, steel, and nickel silver rail, be sure to use nickel silver rail ONLY.

 

Available Pieces:  Standard sectional radiuses, assorted straight lengths 9 inches and under, #5 turnouts, #6 crossovers.

Physical Description:  Extremely durable, reliable, and high end in cost, great for children and beginners.  Extremely easy to set up and will even work on carpet.  Very good detail, and much more realistic when compared to Bachmann E-Z Track.

 

Available Pieces:  Available in four sectional radiuses greater than 21-5/8 inches, assorted straight lengths 9-3/4 inches and under, and #4 and #6 turnouts.

 

Micro Engineering/Railcraft-code 55, 70, 83, and 100

 

Physical Description:  Most realistic product line available and high end in cost, extremely difficult to handle “rigid” flextrack.  Not at all recommended for children or beginners!

 

Available Pieces:  36 inch flextrack and #6 turnouts only.

Physical Description:  Based on European prototype track, durable, reliable and high end in cost.  Not the first choice for children.  Main advantage to this line is the turnouts which come sprung and require no switch motor or ground throw to keep the points aligned.  Being based on European design, the turnouts are not straight through the frog; rather they are curved throughout the entire length of the turnout.  Therefore, they are not subject to the same number measuring standard as American turnouts.  Flextrack is also available with “concrete” ties.

 

Available Pieces:  Available in radiuses that do not match the American standard, assorted straight lengths, and small, medium, large turnout Radiuses, and 36 inch flex track.  Curved turnouts are available.

 

Walthers/Shinohara-code 70, 83, and 100      www.walthers.com

 

Physical Description:  More delicate track line high end in price.  Very realistic and chief advantage is the assorted turnout and specialty track available.  Not recommended at all for children, and cautioned against for beginners, extremely reliable when installed properly.

 

Available Pieces:  No sectional track available.  Assorted large radius curved turnouts, double and single slips, double crossovers, turnouts ranging in size from #5 to #8 and up, and 36 inch flextrack.

Physical Description:  Durable, reliable, and mid range in cost, cautioned against for children but most beginners through experienced experts will find this product line meets their needs.  Much improved detail over their code 80 line, much more realistic looking.  Some large flange wheel sets that do not meet NMRA standards (Micro Trains non-low profile) will not work on this track

 

Available Pieces:  Six different radiuses, assorted straight lengths 6 inches and under, #5 and #7 turnouts, assorted crossing angles, and 30 inch flex track sections.
